Terry Graziano Hats

I was an independent hat designer from 2000-2020. I described my work as “ Modern Millinery”, practicing a traditional art form through a contemporary lens. My designs were rooted in classic millinery shapes that I then set in motion, creating style mash-ups that transform in silhouette, and transform the women who wore them.

Relying on a fabric’s natural weight and body, eschewing any extra stiffeners, I used flat-pattern techniques and machine and hand sewing to provide structure, form and function. A ribbon drawstring was the only ornamentation, providing a simple and elegant mechanism to adjust hat size for an ideal fit.

My goal was to assist women in self-expression, by providing accessories that complemented their outfits, their moods, and each woman’s individual beauty.

Combining my award-winning background in fashion and costume design, I created subtly dramatic hats engineered to be worn many different ways. Born and raised in New Jersey, I spent many years living and working in Philadelphia, New York and Chicago, before moving to Taos, New Mexico in 2014. My hats were sold through boutiques, art galleries, museums and retail shows, as well as to private clients in over 40 states and 23 countries. My work was been featured on television, in numerous blogs, and in many print publications including Women's Wear Daily, Ebony Magazine, Nylon, Time Out NY, Blos Holland, The Hat Magazine, The Taos News, and the Taos Journal of International Poetry & Art.
