I've also pared down my make-up and wardrobe choices for the summer, have changed up my diet quite a bit, and am devoting time to some great summer reads.
Below are a few of my favorites from the month of July.
Make-up
Most days I keep it pretty simple, and throughout July I found myself reaching for the same line-up over and over. Pictured: Shiseido Perfect Hydrating BB Cream with SPF 35 in Dark Glo (works great with a slight tan); Revlon Colorstay Concealer in 01 Fair; Neutrogena SkinClearing Mineral Powder in #10 Classic Ivory; NARS Blush in Desire (I use this on my cheeks & eyelids); L’Oreal Paris Double Extend Eye Illuminator Eyeliner in Black/Crystal (I use both ends on my upper lid); Tarte Lights, Camera, Splashes Mascara; NARS Velvet Matte Lip Pencil in Red Square
Book
Full Bloom: The Art and Life of Georgia O’Keeffe by Hunter Drohojowska-Philip
This was a hefty read but well-worth it! I never really knew much about Georgia O'Keeffe's life, and now that I do, I have an even greater appreciation for her work. It was extremely well-written, and made me even happier to now live in "O'Keeffe Country".
Tea
The Republic of Tea Double Green Matcha Tea; Zhena’s Gypsy Tea in Coconut Chai
I am trying to give up drinking coffee (sobs), and as such, I have upped my tea consumption to avoid the inevitable withdrawal headaches. Lately I've been starting my day with hot green tea, and if I need an afternoon pick-me-up, I’m all about the chai, usually iced.
Swimsuit
Swimsuit by Sweaty Betty
Now that I live in the high desert, there really isn’t a great place for me to swim per se. However, we often go to a nearby hot springs resort to enjoy the healing waters. The pools are quite exposed, so we like to avoid the intense sun of midday and head out there in the early evening instead. Since the temperatures cool down pretty quickly once the sun drops, I wanted a suit with a bit more coverage, but that still had great style. This one is sporty, comfortable, and all-around perfection.
Fashion
Pictured left to right: vintage, madewell, jcrew, cos
This past month I've been wearing a uniform of jeans paired with lightweight tops in shades of white & cream. It's a perfect combination while I'm working in the studio, and I'll add a cardigan for early mornings and evenings out & about town.
Hat
my Screwball in denim chambray
Screwball is a hat I made a few seasons ago in wool, and though I loved it, the style didn't sell well so I eventually removed it from the line-up. I made myself one in lightweight denim chambray for the summer, and I've been wearing it nearly every day. It's a sophisticated take on a baseball cap / cloche mash-up, and it's the perfect style for the casual vibe in Taos.
Way to End the Day
Rainbows!
July is monsoon season in New Mexico and in Taos we have thunderstorms almost every afternoon. But that also means that we have amazing rainbows almost every evening. And if we're lucky, sometimes it's a double.
